The Cambridge, Mass., company published in Cell the three-dimensional structure of a complex containing calcineurin B, a key intracellular signal generator in the immune response.
The protein was bound to a complex of the transplant immunosuppressant drug FK506 (tacrolimus) and that drug's target, the binding protein FKBP12, an immunophilin. The drug-receptor complex blocks the action of calcineurin, which eventually acts in the immune cascade in T cells to produce interleukin-2. ...
