Results published by NCI researchers in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed 19 of 283 consecutive patients (7 percent), of whom 134 had metastatic melanoma and 149 had metastatic renal cancer, responded to the high dose of IL-2 (720,000 IU/kg) with complete regression. An additional 34 (12 percent) had partial regression of their disease.
Fifteen patients are still in complete remission. About half are more than three years out from therapy. Durability of partial responses was more variable, with a median of 22 months in renal cell patients and eight months in melanoma patients. ...
