The Beaverton, Ore., company published results with its oral fluid collection device, OraSure, showing comparable sensitivity and specificity with blood samples in detecting immune status for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR).
In the Journal of the American Medical Association, tests on blood and oral fluid from 157 volunteers showed sensitivity (false negatives) of 96.7 percent and specificity of 100 percent for measles, and both measures were 100 percent in the 55 participants who were younger than 18 years. ...
