XOMA (Berkeley) published findings on the 23-kilodalton rBPI protein showing that it contains three functional binding domains, pointing the way for additional clinical applications of the molecule.
In the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the company described binding of heparin at several amino acid sequences in the protein, with the highest affinity at amino acids 65-99. The bactericidal domain is at amino acids 85-99, and lipopolysaccharide-related activity resides at these sites and also at amino acids 17-45. ...
