The privately held company (Mountain View, Calif.,) announced the births of eight transgenic calves that carry the gene for human lactoferrin, an antibacterial protein found in human milk.
The calves represent about half of the births to date from 55 pregnancies generated by artificial insemination into normal heifers using semen from the company's bull that is transgenic for the gene. The remaining transgenic calves should be born by March, the company said. ...
