SHMN (South San Francisco) reported results from a Phase I/II trial in 10 AIDS patients treated three times daily for at least 14 days with the drug. The patients all had mucocutaneous herpes simplex infection that had not responded to acyclovir.
Measurements by physicians of the lesions' size and evaluation of characteristics such as crusting and redness showed improvement in more than half the lesions. Of 23 lesions evaluated, 15 were classified as improved by the investigators. ...
