ANRG (Redwood City, Calif.) published a mouse study with the vaccine, a synthetic peptide derived from the third hypervariable region of the self-Major Histocompatibility class II molecules that govern presentation of antigens to T cells.
As reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the mice that were vaccinated produced auto-antibodies to that region of the MHC. Three of 16 vaccinated animals developed experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a model of multiple sclerosis, compared to 13 of 16 control animals. ...
