Hygeia announced cloning of a cancer antigen at the Third International Conference on Human Antibodies and Hybridomas in San Antonio, Texas. The antigen is the target of the monoclonal antibodies that the company had derived from a patient with colorectal cancer. By characterizing the gene of the target antigen, Hygeia said, greater specificity can be designed into its human MAbs.

The cloned antigen , AgSK-1, is recognized by the IgM antibody that was isolated from the B cells culled from a lymph node near the patient's colon cancer. The antigen's genetic sequence obtained so far shows no homology with other known genes. ...
