Hylan G-F 20 Synvisc derivative of hyaluronan data

Injection of the gel into the knee gave statistically significant improvement of motion pain and joint function. Participants in the Phase III-equivalent study of 104 patients went through a four-week washout of any drugs they had taken before the study. Each treatment course consisted of three weekly injections; control patients had sham injections. Patients who received either one or two treatments (three or six injections of the agent) showed improvement from baseline on seven measures at 18 weeks (p < 0.05). Transient pain and swelling in the knee were seen in about 1 percent of the 400 injections of the agent, with no adverse systemic effects noted. ...
