Test-tube experiments showed that IL-12 can restore the immune responsiveness of mononuclear white blood cells culled from HIV-positive people, suggesting a potential strategy to augment the immune function of HIV-infected individuals.
As described in Science, adding IL-12 to cultures of the cells allowed them to produce IL-2 and respond by T cell proliferation to immune stimuli such as influenza virus, as well as to a challenge with the Env protein of the HIV virus. ...
