The institute's researchers showed in Nature Medicine that porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV), produced by kidney cell lines of pigs, was able to infect human kidney cell lines. Co-cultivation of the porcine cells with human cells resulted in infection of a broad range of human cells including human diploid fibroblasts and B and T cell lines. ...
