AMBI's antimicrobial peptide successfully eradicated H. felis, a bacterium related to H. pylori, in 50 mice, the Tarrytown, N.Y., company reported.
Nisin acts locally in the stomach, and is degraded in the pancreas, rendering it effective without causing side-effects common to systemic antibacterial drugs, AMBI said. Nisin targets the plasma membrane of bacteria, causing its deionization and destruction. ...
