CTII (Providence, R.I.) reported animal testing of its CRIB biocapsule implanted in the brain. As published in Experimental Neurology, six rats receiving the polymer implants prior to a chemical lesion with the excitatory agent quinolinic acid showed less abnormal movement than animals without implants (p < 0.0001).
Retrieved capsules showed viable cells, and ELISA demonstrated continued production of the growth factor. Histology of the brain revealed sparing of neurons a month after the implant, compared to appropriate controls. ...
