ABT (Abbott Park, Ill.) published its discovery of a group of viruses associated with forms of hepatitis for which causative viruses have not been previously identified.

As reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, two flavivirus-like sequences were cloned from serum of tamarin monkeys infected with the GB hepatitis agent, originally collected in the 1960s from a surgeon with hepatitis of unknown origin. At least one of these GB viruses has been found in U.S. patients, as well as elsewhere in the world, the company said. ...
