ABLC amphotericin B lipid complex data

LIPO (Princeton, N.J.) presented data from more than 200 patients receiving ABLC under an emergency use protocol, showing a cure rate of 55 percent, and a clinical improvement rate of 69 percent, with an incidence of toxicities requiring cessation of therapy of less than 10 percent.
Patients who had suffered from the nephrotoxic effect of the uncomplexed antifungal, or who had preexisting renal impairment, showed improved kidney function on the liposomal agent as measured by creatinine levels (n=62 with initial serum creatinine of more than 2.5 mg/dL). The overall mean serum creatinine declined significantly (p<0.0001) but actually increased in 69 of the 225 patients, and was unchanged in the 50 children in the study. ...
