A common variation in the gene coding for the receptor for Vitamin D can be used to predict if persons will develop osteoporosis as they age, Australian scientists reported in Nature.
The allelic variants of the gene, dubbed either B or b, account for up to 75 percent of the total genetic effect on bone density in healthy individuals, the researchers reported. ...
