The Cambridge, Mass., company published results using its technique of humanizing mouse monoclonal antibodies, showing that changes in a few key amino acids at the surface of antibodies may avoid adverse reactions while retaining the precise targeting required for therapy.
In the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the company detailed its process for resurfacing mouse antibodies. The technique introduces fewer disturbances in the three-dimensional appearance of the antibody, as compared to other humanizing approaches, such as grafting mouse complementarity determining regions onto a human framework, the company said.
