ENVG (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and the J.R. Simplot Co. completed the degradation of TNT in a field demonstration, using Simplot's anaerobic bioremediation process that degrades nitroaromatic compounds. Preliminary results show the destruction of TNT in an 18-week period from 1528 mg/kg of soil to less than 10 mg/kg, which is below the regulatory limit. The companies, which are jointly marketing the product, carried out the test at a Department of Defense facility in Michigan under an EPA Superfund technology evaluation program. ...
