Researchers reported that IMRE's Prosorba column improved the neurologic function of two patients with a nervous disease called paraprotein-associated peripheral polyneuropathy. The patients, who were rapidly relapsing at the time of treatment of their blood with the immunoabsorbent column, were soon able to stand and walk independently. Therapy consisted of six immunoabsorption treatments within 12 days.
The disorder starts as numbness and weakness in the hands and feet, progressing to severe motor disability. At present, there is no agreement regarding the best treatment, the researchers said. ...
