Gilead, Mylan, Ranbaxy, Strides Arcolab sales and marketing update

Gilead granted Mylan's Mylan Laboratories Ltd. subsidiary, Ranbaxy and Strides Arcolab rights to produce and market generic versions of single and fixed-dose combinations of HIV drug emtricitabine in developing countries. The deal includes Gilead's Truvada emtricitabine/tenofovir and Quad elvitegravir/ cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir. Gilead will provide funding and expertise to help the generic companies improve the emtricitabine manufacturing process. Gilead said the deal would increase access to high-quality, low-cost generic versions of emtricitabine. Gilead is eligible for a 3% royalty from the generics companies on sales of tenofovir-containing drugs.

Last year, Gilead granted Mylan, Ranbaxy, Strides Arcolab and Hetero Drugs Ltd. (Hyderabad, India) non-exclusive marketing rights in developing countries to Quad, as well as HIV candidates elvitegravir and cobicistat (see BioCentury, July 18, 2011). ...
