The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted Caribou U.S. Patent No. 9,260,752, which describes compositions and methods of using CRISPR to detect and analyze DNA and RNA. The ‘752 patent does not cover methods of genome editing, which is the subject of an ongoing dispute between two groups claiming inventorship and ownership of IP covering Cas9 ( CRISPR-associated protein 9) gene editing technology. The patent lists Jennifer Doudna from the University of California Berkeley (Berkeley, Calif.) as one of the inventors. Doudna co-founded Caribou. ...
