How GE plans to industrialize cell therapy manufacturing

With cell therapy companies starting to enter the clinic in droves, GE Healthcare has decided that manufacturing technologies for the modality is in drastic need of industrialization. The unit of General Electric Co. thinks companies need to move away from piecemeal building of cell therapy manufacturing and towards a system that works around the clock, and spans preclinical testing to commercialization.

The company has produced a broad swath of tools for manufacturing biologics such as antibodies, including bioreactors, mixing systems, cell culture media, chromatography columns and purification systems.
