In vitro and mouse studies suggest a UCN2-based gene therapy could help treat Type II diabetes. In a mouse model of Type II diabetes, a single IV injection of an adeno-associated viral (AAV) serotype 8 (AAV8) vector encoding UCN2 decreased blood glucose levels and increased glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity for up to 18 weeks compared with vehicle.
