Histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3)

Mouse studies suggest HDAC3 inhibition could help treat cocaine addiction. HDAC inhibitors are known to reduce drug-seeking behaviors, but the individual HDAC responsible was unknown. In mice, an HDAC3-specific inhibitor blocked cocaine-seeking behavior. Next steps include additional studies of HDAC3 inhibition on learning, memory and drug-seeking behaviors in animals.
Repligen Corp.'s HDAC3-specific inhibitor, RG2833, is in Phase I testing to treat ataxia.
