Chemokine CX3C motif ligand 1 (CX3CL1; fractalkine)

Mouse studies suggest the soluble isoform of CX3CL1 could help treat PD. In a mouse model of chemical-induced PD, substantia nigra injection of an adeno-associated viral vector expressing soluble Cx3cl1 decreased the loss of dopaminergic neurons and increased motor coordination compared with injection of a vector expressing the membrane-bound Cx3cl1 isoform. Next steps could include testing soluble CX3CL1 in additional models of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration.
