Disease models

Mouse model of acute thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP)

A mouse model of acute TTP could be useful for studying disease pathophysiology and evaluating candidate therapies. von Willebrand factor (Vwf)-deficient mice were injected with a vector encoding a mutant Vwf that is resistant to proteolytic cleavage, and the mice rapidly developed multiple markers of acute TTP including thrombocytopenia, renal dysfunction and schistocytes in blood samples. Next steps could include using the mice to evaluate acute TTP therapeutics.
