Bayer to sell U.S. discounted Cipro

HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson announced on Wednesday that Bayer (FSE:BAYG) has agreed to provide 100 million tablets of Cipro ciprofloxacin for the U.S. government bio-defense stockpile for $0.95 per tablet, less than the standard government rate of $1.77 per tablet. Also, BAYG has also donated 2 million tablets of Cipro to HHS for use by emergency workers. The company said that in addition to its deal with the government, it will make 100 million Cipro tablets available to pharmacies and hospitals. Thompson told members of Congress Tuesday that he would seek strip BAYG of its Cipro patent if the company did not provide HHS a substantial discount. ...
