Pharma to drop HIV prices

The United Nations Joint Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) announced today that it "has opened a new dialogue with pharmaceutical companies to improve access to HIV/AIDS-related treatment in developing countries."

Five pharmaceutical companies and the UN said that they have agreed to work together to broaden access to affordable AIDS care and treatment in developing countries around the world. The companies, Boehringer Ingelheim (Ingelheim, Germany), Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY), Glaxo Wellcome (LSE:GLXO; GLX), Merck (MRK), and Hoffmann-La Roche (SWX:ROCZ), have offered to provide substantial discounts on treatments for HIV/AIDS, and other companies have expressed interest in the project, according to UNAIDS. ...
