Industry leaders sign pledge for gender diversity

An open letter released Wednesday outlined best practices to increase gender diversity in the biopharma community. More than 100 industry leaders signed the letter and pledged to implement gender inclusion polices.

The letter, circulated by the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio) and the Biopharma Executive Council, called for signatories to "make a conscious commitment to eradicate unconscious biases" in hirings and promotions, and to support formal mentorship and sponsorship programs that diversify executive leadership. It said board members should sponsor "board ready" women, and endorsed board training for "high potential female talent." Signatories pledged to track promotions of female executives to senior positions, and to train hiring managers on diversity and inclusion while emphasizing the importance of concrete hiring goals of inclusion at all organizational levels. ...
