Johnson seeking Senate vote on federal right-to-try bill

At a committee hearing Thursday, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said he plans to ask the U.S. Senate next week to approve the Trickett Wendler Right to Try Act of 2016 ( S. 2912) under a unanimous consent request. The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs held the hearing to discuss the bill, which Johnson introduced in May. Johnson is the committee's chairman.

Johnson's bill would prohibit the federal government from limiting access of terminally ill patients to experimental treatments or devices, and would prohibit federal agencies from using those patients' outcomes to delay or deny the drugs' or devices' approval.
