Moonshot plan includes FDA oncology center

FDA proposed a virtual Oncology Center of Excellence as part of the National Cancer Moonshot initiative. According to a fact sheet from Vice President Joe Biden, the center would seek to draw on the skills of regulatory scientists and reviewers to speed development of cancer products including combination therapies and precision medicines.

President Obama is asking for $1 billion to fund the overall initiative, including $755 million for new cancer-related research activities at NIH and FDA in his FY17 budget request, according to the fact sheet.
