NIH wraps Precision Medicine Initiative workshop

Stakeholders discussed technical aspects of assembling a planned research cohort of 1 million volunteers on Thursday, the second day of a two-day NIH workshop on President Obama's Precision Medicine Initiative. The workshop included about 85 experts from academia, industry and government, as well as patient advocates (see BioCentury Extra, Feb. 11).

The group discussed mobile health technologies, electronic health records, and issues related to researchers' access to data. It also addressed ways to overcome health disparities due to location, ethnicity and wealth, as well as legal hurdles and long-term maintenance of the cohort. ...
