Indiana biosimilar bill becomes law

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed into law legislation that will allow pharmacists to substitute biosimilars that FDA has approved as interchangeable with an original biologic if the prescriber indicates the biologic may be substituted. The law allows substitution if the pharmacist has notified the patient and practitioner of the substitution and the pharmacy retains a record of the substitution (see BioCentury Extra, Feb. 26).
