FDA, NIH mum on plans for handling a government shutdown

Although the end of the fiscal year is less than one week away, FDA and NIH have not yet disclosed their plans for handling a possible government shutdown. The current continuing resolution (CR) for funding government operations is set to expire Sept. 30, and should Congress not pass a new CR or full budget by then the government will shut down. FDA and NIH did not comment on which agency operations would be furloughed and which would remain open, or about possible effects on current PDUFA dates. Both agencies referred BioCentury's inquiries to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. In a statement, OMB said "agencies are still in the process of reviewing relevant legal requirements and updating their plans. Determinations about specific programs are being actively reviewed as agencies undertake this process." ...
