The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee is investigating spending by NIH and its institutes on communications. According to a letter sent to NIH Director Francis Collins, the investigation is prompted by an article that was published in The Cancer Letter last month that said the National Cancer Institute's Office of Communications and Education (OCE) spent $45 million in FY12, enough to fund more than 100 research grants. A subsequent editorial published in Nature stated that NCI's OCE spent $381.2 million from 2006-2012. ...
