Senators request delay for medical device excise tax

A group of Senators and Senators-elect sent a letter last Tuesday to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) asking him to request a delay on the implementation of the medical device excise tax, which is slated to take effect on Jan. 1, 2013. The group said the medical device industry has received "little guidance" on the tax, which has led to "significant uncertainty and confusion." The 2.3% excise tax on the sales price of certain medical devices sold after Dec. 31, 2012, was mandated by the Affordable Care Act (see BioCentury Extra, Feb. 3). ...
