IOM report proposes broad healthcare reforms

The Institute of Medicine called for sweeping reforms of the American healthcare system in a report on Thursday, citing unsustainable and wasteful healthcare spending. In 2009 alone, IOM estimates that $750 billion, or 30% of healthcare spending, was wasted due to unnecessary or inefficient services, excessive administration costs, prices that are too high and missed prevention opportunities. IOM proposes a system of "continuously learning health care," where new tools would be used to generate and apply evidence to deliver care that is adaptive to patients' needs. ...
