CMS delays outpatient cuts

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will postpone implementation of a rule that would have cut hospital reimbursements by about 20% for certain products, such as EPO, that are delivered as infusions or injections to Medicare patients in hospitals. The rule was scheduled to be implemented as part of CMS's transition to a new payment system and would be in effect only for calendar year 2002 (see BioCentury Extra, Thursday Nov. 29). ...
