Simplot stops purchase of GM potatoes

J.R. Simplot, one of the largest suppliers of frozen french fries in North America, has informed growers that it will not purchase genetically modified potatoes, according to company spokesman Fred Zerza.

Simplot, which is one of McDonald's principle suppliers of frozen french fries, said the decision not to purchase GM potatoes is a response to demands from fast food companies. "Most of our customers have indicated to us that they prefer that we supply them non-GMO products," Zerza said.
