NICE snubs Alexion's Strensiq

The U.K.'s NICE issued draft guidance that recommended against Strensiq asfotase alfa from Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:ALXN) to treat pediatric-onset hypophosphatasia (HPP), citing a lack of evidence for the enzyme replacement therapy's long-term benefits and its high cost.

NICE said that while Strensiq improved the probability of survival compared to best supportive care, it "was not satisfied that the company had provided adequate justification for the high cost per person of asfotase alfa," adding that "it does not represent value for money for the NHS." ...
