AspenBio reports pilot data for appendicitis test
AspenBio Pharma Inc. (NASDAQ:APPY) said a cassette-based version of AppyScore had a negative predictive value of 97%, sensitivity of 96% and specificity of 43% for diagnosing appendicitis in a U.S. pilot trial in 503 patients. The data sent AspenBio's shares up $0.14 (17%) to $0.96 on Tuesday. Data will be presented at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine meeting in Chicago in May. AspenBio plans to start a U.S. pivotal trial of AppyScore this year. The company also plans to seek CE Mark approval of the test and hopes to launch the product in regions of Europe before year end.
