Graying leadership at FDA's
Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, combined with a sclerotic hiring
process, threatens to create a leadership vacuum at the center, according to
Richard Moscicki, deputy director for science operations.
"These positions have been
opening up as there has been a graying of the leadership at CDER, with people
stepping away to pursue other things or to retire," he told BioCentury.
Failing to bring in experienced managers "could bring us to a real crisis
in leadership if we don't replenish - and replenish now."
