Provisos for a Henney hearing

WASHINGTON - Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee Chairman James Jeffords (R-Vt.) on Friday said that if Jane Henney replies in a timely manner to questions posed by Republican members of the committee, he will schedule a Sept. 1 hearing on her nomination as FDA commissioner.

Jeffords' commitment was expressed in a letter to Sens. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), Pat Murray (D-Wash.), and Paul Wellstone (D-Minn.). The four Labor Committee members wrote to Jeffords last week requesting that he schedule a hearing to consider the nomination...
