Drawing the line at humans

WASHINGTON - Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond (R-Mo.), last week introduced legislation to permanently ban federal funding of human cloning and human cloning research.

The bill, which was co-sponsored by Sens. John Ashcroft (R-Mo.) and Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), states: "No federal funds may be used for research with respect to the cloning of a human individual." It defines cloning as "the replication of a human individual by the taking of a cell with genetic material and the cultivation of the cell through the egg, embryo, fetal, and newborn stages into a new human individual."...
