No aiding and abetting

WASHINGTON - The campaign against gene patenting by religious organizations and Jeremey Rifkin's Foundation on Economic Trends so far has been limited to a small flare-up, and the Biotechnology Industry Organization's strategy is to avoid adding any fuel to the fire.

Athough the Southern Baptist Convention recently called for a moratorium on patenting of animal and human genetic material (see BioCentury, June 26), and talked about pressuring prominent politicians who are members of the denomination to support a moratorium, the issue doesn't seem to have made it onto the radar screens of the politicians...
