Virtual drug screening is a technology that many researchers hope will one day replace, to some extent, biochemical high throughput screening assays. While the basic technology for virtual drug screening has been available for years, reliable, high throughput virtual screening has not been possible.

But recent increases in computing power, in the availability of gene sequences and protein structures, and improvements in computational methods for computer docking of compounds and targets have led the founders of Prospect Genomics Inc. to conclude it is now possible to conduct high throughput screening of virtual compound libraries in silico.
