GlaxoSmithKline said it will release anonymized patient-level data from clinical trials to researchers wanting to use the data for "valid scientific endeavor." Starting in January 2013, researchers will be able to request access to patient-level data collected from GSK's globally conducted Phase I-IV trials since 2007. GSK did not say what types of trials would fall under the "globally conducted" definition. GSK did say that researchers will have access to all trials that start after January 2013, including all regional and local studies. The pharma will assess requests for data collected prior to 2007 on a case-by-case basis. An independent panel of experts will review each data request for scientific merit. Researchers whose requests are granted will receive access to the data via a secure website. The pharma already publishes a summary of data for all clinical trials on its website. ...
