Canada to donate Ebola vaccine doses to WHO

The Canadian government said it will donate 800-1,000 doses of its VSV-EBOV Ebola vaccine to the World Health Organization in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Canada said the final number of doses provided will depend on the amount required for applied research and clinical trials, and that it will keep a "small supply" in the event the vaccine is needed for compassionate use.

WHO will help distribute the vaccine, which has not yet been evaluated in humans. The vaccine was developed by researchers at the National Microbiology Laboratory at the Public Health Agency of Canada. The agency also announced on Wednesday that it plans to provide an additional C$185,000 ($168,627.50) to WHO to support infection prevention and control, enhanced surveillance and outbreak response capacity in the affected region. ...
