NIH awards $31.5M to create innovation centers

NIH's National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) awarded $31.5 million to establish three NIH Centers for Accelerated Innovations (NCAIs) to translate early stage technologies for cardiovascular, pulmonary, hematology and sleep disorders into commercial products. Each of the centers has non-federal funding equal to or greater than the NHLBI grant.

Boston Biomedical Innovation Center will comprise scientists from Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard College. The Cleveland Clinic Innovation Accelerator will bring together the clinic's Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, Cincinnati Children's Hospital, The Ohio State University and University of Cincinnati. UC BRAID Center for Accelerated Innovation draws from the Los Angeles, Davis, Irvine, San Diego and San Francisco campuses of the University of California system. ...
