Retinal disorder play Avalanche raises $55 million

Avalanche Biotechnologies Inc. (Menlo Park, Calif.) raised $55 million in a series B round from new investors Venrock; Deerfield; Adage Capital Management; Redmile Group; Rock Springs Capital; Sabby Capital; an undisclosed affiliate of Cowen; and two undisclosed healthcare funds.
